On September 15, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi elaborated three-point experience in China-ROK relations in the past three decades during his meeting with President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in.

Wang Yi said, next year will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the ROK. Despite the enormous changes in the past 30 years, the two countries have scored historic advances in bilateral relations. The Chinese people often say, "One should be independent at the age of thirty." China is willing to work with the ROK to take the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties as an opportunity to summarize the experience in the development of the bilateral ties, jointly chart the course for a bright prospect for China-ROK mutually beneficial cooperation, and attach much importance to the experience over the past three decades.

First, mutual respect. Despite different national conditions, China and the ROK always respect each other's development paths, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and respect each other's national and cultural traditions and national feelings. We should increase efforts in this aspect as it is indispensable for the sound development of bilateral relations.

Second, focus on cooperation. China and the ROK enjoy geographical proximity, cultural affinity and economic complementarity. The cooperation of the two countries is blessed with opportune time, favorable conditions and popular support. The bilateral trade between China and the ROK has topped 300 billion U.S. dollars, personnel exchanges between the two countries have risen to ten million every year, and mutual investment has exceeded 100 billion U.S. dollars, bringing intangible benefits to the two peoples. The two sides should strengthen and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation that serves as the stabilizer and anchor for the steady development of China-ROK relations.

Third, commitment to peace. The peace on the Korean Peninsula has not come easily and shall be all the more cherished. Despite the volatility and complexity of the situation, we should never give up the yearning for peace on the Peninsula, and never stop working for peace on the Peninsula. We should overcome and remove all kinds of obstacles with determination to continuously improve inter-Korean relations, and unswervingly advance the peace process of the Korean Peninsula.
