Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Meets with Wang Yi

On September 14, 2021 local time, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was on an official visit to Singapore.

Wang Yi conveyed the cordial regards of Chinese leaders to Lee Hsien Loong, saying that China-Singapore relations have maintained a development momentum since the two countries established diplomatic ties 30 years ago, and turned into a crucial stabilizing factor of the region, thanks to the strategic leadership of both countries' leaders, the concerted efforts of all walks of life in the two countries, and Singapore's objective and rational view of China's development and changes and its ability to spot cooperative opportunities from China's development for win-win outcomes. China and Singapore have a well-chosen positioning of an all-round cooperative partnership progressing with the times. In the post-pandemic era, China is willing to join hands with Singapore to further enhance mutual trust and deepen exchanges, create opportunities in the midst of changes and maintain focus in spite of chaos, so as to further promote the two countries' mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and contribute to peace, stability and development of the region and the world at large.

Wang Yi said, China will uphold good-neighborliness, continue to deepen cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, and open up new prospects of China-ASEAN relations. We are willing to speed up the consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea with ASEAN countries, jointly organize the events in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations, uphold the mature regional framework with ASEAN at its core, share the development dividends with all countries, and facilitate common development and prosperity of the region.

Lee Hsien Loong conveyed through Wang Yi his sincere greetings to Chinese leaders and lauded China's successful containment of the virus. Noting that Singapore and China have witnessed fruitful exchanges and cooperation in various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Lee Hsien Loong said, Singapore cherishes the achievements of Singapore-China relations and expects to see greater development of bilateral relations to build a new era of Singapore-China relations. ASEAN-China relations have improved comprehensively over the past 30 years, which serves the fundamental interests of both sides and contributes to regional stability, openness and cooperation. Singapore supports ASEAN countries and China in launching events celebrating the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and consolidating the open regional cooperation mechanism, so as to provide new development opportunities for both sides. China has achieved great success in the past four decades and more, and its international responsibilities have risen as well. Singapore hopes that all parties will interact with China positively to co-build a global village in the era of globalization and boost the world's long-term and sustainable development.

During his stay in Singapore, Wang Yi also met with Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, and held talks and jointly met the press with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
