2021-07-27 14:18

On July 27, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met the press together with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg after their talks in Tianjin.

Wang Yi said, Chinese and Mongolian foreign ministers have just concluded fruitful talks. The two sides reached an eight-point consensus on promoting the development of China-Mongolia relations under the new situation, continuing to fight the pandemic together, deepening exchanges and cooperation in various fields, etc.

Both sides agreed that China and Mongolia, as friendly neighbors connected by the same mountains and rivers and having a common stake, share more and more common interests and similar concerns. Both sides should adopt a long-term and big-picture perspective, proceed from the fundamental interests and well-being of the two peoples, and move bilateral relations continuously ahead along the fast growth track.

Both sides confirmed that the two countries will insist on mutual respect for each other's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect for the development path chosen by each other, and respect for each other's core interests and major concerns, and continue to enhance political mutual trust.

Both sides attached importance to the key leading role played by high-level exchanges in bilateral relations and agreed to strengthen the interaction and exchanges between the leaders of the two countries. China invited Mongolian leaders to virtually attend the 2021 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum, and welcomed Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai and Speaker of the Parliament Gombojav Zandanshatar to visit China at an appropriate time.

Both sides spoke highly of the cooperation between the two countries in combating COVID-19 and decided to co-issue the Joint Statement on Further Strengthening Anti-pandemic Cooperation between China and Mongolia and work together to build a global community of health for all. Both sides stressed that the origin tracing of the coronavirus is a scientific task and should not be politicized, and called for promoting global study on the origin tracing.

Both sides agreed to continuously expand the common interests of China and Mongolia and push for further quality improvement and upgrade of bilateral practical cooperation. The two sides will accelerate the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Mongolia's Steppe Road Program, give priority to launching a number of landmark projects, and strive to increase bilateral trade volume to 10 billion U.S. dollars at an early date.

Both sides agreed to actively implement the important principled consensus reached by the two heads of state on strengthening environmental cooperation, including combating desertification and sandstorms. The two sides appreciated the efforts that the competent authorities of the two countries have signed and will soon sign documents on sand prevention and control, and joint forest and grassland fire prevention in border areas to expand cooperation.

Both sides agreed to work hard to overcome the impact of the pandemic, maintain the sound momentum of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and continuously cement the public opinion foundation for enduring friendship between China and Mongolia, so that the concept of being good neighbors, good friends and good partners forever becomes the mainstream consensus of people from all sectors of the two countries.

Both sides agreed to further step up cooperation within the United Nations and other multilateral frameworks, and jointly work against unilateralism and for multilateralism, and against division and confrontation and for win-win cooperation, in a bid to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Wang Yi underscored that under the new situation, the Chinese side is willing to step up efforts and actively forge ahead with the Mongolian side, and continuously add new content and inject new growth momentum into the China-Mongolia comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to better benefit the two peoples and contribute to the prosperity and development of the region.
