Wang Yi Talks about Six-point Consensus on Guiyang Talks between Chinese and Serbian Foreign Ministers
2021-05-29 19:31

On May 29, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks and jointly met the press with Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic in Guiyang.

Wang Yi said, Serbia is China's "iron-clad" friend in Europe. Under the personal care and guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Aleksandar Vucic, the China-Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership has been lifted to an unprecedented high level. At the crucial moment when China was fighting the raging COVID-19 last year, Serbian foreign minister took the lead in visiting China, and expressed firm support for the Chinese people. When Serbia was plagued by the virus, China also extended a helping hand in time. The touching scene that President Vucic went to the airport and greeted Chinese medical workers will always be remembered by the people of China and Serbia.

Wang Yi said, Chinese and Serbian people are heroic nations with backbone, and both of them pursue justice and value friendship. We fight shoulder to shoulder in opposing hegemony and power politics, support each other in upholding independence and sovereignty, and cooperate with each other in pursuing development and rejuvenation. Facts prove that China-Serbia friendship and cooperation bring benefits to the two peoples, safeguard the basic norms of international relations, uphold international fairness and justice, and represent the right course of the historical trend. The two foreign ministers reach six-point consensus after productive talks:

First, bearing in mind instructions of the two heads of state, both countries will firmly maintain China-Serbia friendship, provide firm support on issues concerning each other's core interests, and assist each other in safeguarding national sovereignty and security.

Second, both countries will jointly promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and landmark cooperation projects such as infrastructure, energy, and production capacity, and strive to realize the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade Railway in Serbia at an early date.

Third, both countries will continuously explore new potentials for bilateral cooperation, such as AI and digital economy. China appreciates Serbia's objective and fair stance and continues to support Chinese enterprises in participating in Serbia's 5G network construction.

Fourth, both countries will cement public support for our friendly ties, sign bilateral cooperation agreements on mutual recognition of education, credentials and degrees, and strengthen cooperation in Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

Fifth, both countries will strengthen unity to fight the COVID-19, and deepen cooperation in joint vaccine production, and resumption of work and production.

Sixth, the two countries will continue to support the development and growth of the China-CEEC cooperation mechanism, strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, jointly safeguard multilateralism and the international system with the UN at its core, and contribute to the building of a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind.
