2021-05-27 18:16

On May 26, 2021 local time, Slovenian President Borut Pahor met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi in Ljubljana.

Yang Jiechi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Borut Pahor. Yang said, China-Slovenia relations maintain steady and sound progress, which is reflected by frequent people-to-people contacts, and expanding trade and investment. Against the backdrop of the pandemic, the two countries have maintained a positive momentum of cooperation and exchanges. China welcomes Slovenian enterprises to explore its market, and is willing to import more high-quality and distinctive products from Slovenia. Both sides should take the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to synergize development strategies, expand cooperation in fields such as green development, innovation, medicine and infrastructure, and implement the results from China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) Summit, lifting bilateral relations to a higher level.

Yang Jiechi expressed, China commits itself to maintaining peace, promoting development, and actively building a community with a shared future for mankind. China and the European Union (EU) should firmly grasp the overall direction of the development of bilateral relations from a strategic perspective, to ensure that the two sides continue to move forward along the right track.

Pahor asked Yang Jiechi to convey his cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping, and spoke highly of China's enormous achievements in reform and opening up as well as its important role in international affairs. He said, Slovenia and China share a profound friendship, and the relations are based on solid foundations. Multilateralism is the common choice of the two countries. Slovenia sticks to the one-China policy and is willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China. In the second half of 2021, Slovenia will assume the presidency of the Council of the EU, and it is willing to play a positive role in promoting EU-China relations and cooperation between CEEC and China.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Matej Tonin. Both sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.
